Traverse City Weekend Vibes

Hey everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the weekend & I know this post is a little late in the evening, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Any way, I wanted to share with you my weekend in Traverse City. It is probably my favorite place to go here in Michigan. So much so that I get territorial when I see other people there, like it’s solely for me ( I know irrational). So, I thought about it and since it’s not just mine ( insert sad face) I thought I’d share a couple of my favorite spots for others to enjoy!

We started the day with some friends at Right Brain Brewery. I had never been there before, probably due to the fact I am not a big beer drinker. However, recently I have found a love for stouts. I decided my first drink of the day would be their Imperial CEO Stout ( 9.6% …. starting the day off right I know) with some chips & salsa of course!

The inside is pretty cool as well. Lots of random decor that doesn’t really make sense but somehow goes together, and a salon attached. That’s right, you can get a little buzz and your hair done all in one spot!

On to the next! Our second stop was Suttons Bay Ciders. My partner and I stumbled upon this place by accident on day, but ever since it has become our favorite place to go when visiting the Traverse City area. The view is amazing, and the cider & staff are great as well. Our friends who met up with us had never been before, so I was excited to show them! We were lucky enough that the rain stopped just in time to check out the view ( the wind on the other hand was in full swing).

Our final stop of the day was Hop Lot Brewery. It’s not far from Sutton’s Bay so the drive isn’t bad. The vibe is pretty rustic with more outdoor seating than indoor. Also, if you find yourself still wanting cider from the second stop, its covered! Since it was pretty cold and windy the outdoor fire pits were perfect to sit and have a drink by. We even made some new friends!

I hope you enjoyed viewing a little piece of my weekend. If you ever find yourself in the Traverse City area I hope you check out these places for yourself! If you have a favorite spot you’d like to share I would love to hear!

Always,

Tara

5 Essentials For A Saturday Night At Home.

Hey Ya’ll! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend, and getting ready for some Halloween fun in a couple weeks. With the weather getting colder it’s the perfect time to start carving those pumpkins, and decorating the house for trick or treaters!

Speaking of colder weather, I am starting to notice that my will to go out on the weekend is slowly fading away. I used to think it was because I was getting older and lame ( don’t comment on that… ) but honestly, I just want to be warm & lazy sometimes… most times.

HOWEVER, according to my partner I do like to go out & I have a hard time just sitting at home. He may have a point ( key word MAY) but I think with social media it just makes me feel lamer than normal when I’m at home watching everyone else post their crazy night.

So, I thought about it and really it all comes down to having a general plan or idea of how to spend my night in. If you are anything like me you can’t just sit at home trying to decide what to do? Trust me, I KNOW. I have spent many Saturday nights at home upset because I literally had NOTHING to do. So, I decided to come up with my five essentials to create a fun, stress free, night at home.

1. Food & Drinks

This is probably the most important (to me at least). In order to stay in on the weekend you need to have snacks & drinks! It’s always a bummer when you don’t want to go out & then you realize you have nothing in the house. THE WORST! So I always make sure I have my favorite comfort foods and beverages ready to go before I am in for the night. I mean… there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get a wine buzz. (Not like you’re driving 🙂 )

P.S: There is always delivery.

2. Candles

Let’s be real, all us girls have a thing for candles. Not only do they smell amazing, but they create a calming & relaxing environment. Plus, if you do have a significant other they help create a more specific mood as well…. ( Wink Wink). We’re all adults here.

3. Blankets & PJ’S

Alright, we ate, we have our wine, candles burning, now we need to wrap ourselves up in the perfect blanket! (Can you visualize it yet?) The whole point of staying home is because we want to be cozy & lazy, right? I also find myself getting into the cutest pajamas I can find. I may be at home, but I still want to look good!

4. Entertainment

Probably the second most important essential is your entertainment for the evening. Sometimes I turn on my favorite music playlist to vibe out to, or I log into my Netflix account. Whatever you prefer make sure you have a general idea before hand. We all know you can scroll through Netflix for an hour before you get frustrated and turn it off. & since it is October, the horror section might be a good place to start.

5. Stay Off Social Media!

Don’t even think about it! Disconnect from the virtual world & enjoy your night. Take this time to get back to center. I’m not saying everything on social media is negative but there is a lot, and sometimes we just need to give our brain a break. For me it helps with my creative side because there are no distractions or influences.

That’s it folks! My five essentials. I hope you enjoyed reading this post and if you have any other must haves that you love I would love to hear it! Have a good Weekend!

Always,

Tara

Never Gonna Give You Up…

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and are enjoying this rainy, cold day (if you’re here in Michigan).

So, I know I hinted a little bit ago that I was trying new things/ changing up some stuff, and let me just say… change is hard! Lol. So I figured today I would start with telling you all about my “I’m not going to drink coffee anymore” idea.

Let me start by saying I decided to do this cold turkey. I was at work one day and while I was drinking my coffee I noticed it didn’t taste as good. I wasn’t enjoying it like I use to and I started to wonder if I just did it out of habit at this point? So, I took a little poll on instagram to see if I would be crazy (or smart) if I gave coffee up.

To my surprise 60/40% were for giving it up! Caffeine is a hard habit to break and let’s be honest, it’s not good for you. BUT, I want to be clear, I was trying to break my COFFEE addiction not necessarily the CAFFEINE part. I say that because I started drinking tea, which can have caffeine in it, but is generally a healthier alternative. (I’m sure some could debate this but that’s another story.)

So, I told myself I would go two weeks with no coffee, and I started to write down how I was feeling each day, and the results….

September 15th, Day 1: “Feeling good and motivate!

September 17th, Day 3: (& a Monday morning) “I feel tired today & off.”

September 19th, Day 5: “Woke up dizzy, got sick at work, went home & slept.” (Side note: I’m still not sure if this was due to my body not liking the fact I wasn’t giving it as much caffeine as it was use to or if my co-worker got me sick?)

It just so happened my girlfriend checked up on me this day as well. Thanks Hannah!

September 21st, Day 7: “I made it a week!”

That’s right, I made it a week & then I went up north for the weekend…..

Woke up that Saturday morning & it was the first day of Fall, I had a sweater on & was surrounded by trees…. I think we can all agree I HAD to drink my coffee while sitting outside.

I know I didn’t make it to my goal of two weeks, however I wanted to share my week of success incase you or someone you know is potentially struggling with their own goals. Don’t get discouraged by set backs or slip ups. They are bound to happen and when they do focus on the little victories that you do have. I could have been hard on myself, but instead I look at it like this; I went from drinking coffee everyday to going a week without it. Plus, now I know it’s something that I CAN live without. That’s a win in my book.

I hope you enjoyed my little experiment, and if you are doing something similar I’d love to hear about it! (Also, if you read the title of this post and sang “Never gonna let you down” in your head we can be BFF’S 🙂 )

Always,

Tara

Mondaze Got You In A Haze?

Good Morning Everyone, and Happy Monday!

I know, usually not the best day of the week considering it means the weekend is over.

BUT, hopefully today I can help you & myself by giving a little Monday motivation to cheer us on.

First, let’s talk about what is means to be motivated. More often than not money and power are usually the key factors that motivate people. Don’t get me wrong, those things motivate me to a certain point, but it can become boring or repetitive.

“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Lately, I have been extremely motivated by my PASSIONS. Yea, sure, you can be passionate about your job & that’s great, but what if you’re not? Do you just go to work daily and deal? Or do you start to think outside the box you got stuck in?

For example, music and dance have always been a passion of mine. However, as a 32 year old dog mom, it has taken a back seat in my life, until now. That’s right, recently I decided that I was going to make it a priority to get back into doing what makes me happy.

Now, I don’t want to give too much away, but I will say this; years ago I went through some difficulties, and to help keep myself from falling into a deep depression I signed up for drum lessons. I loved it! I not only learned something new, my teacher became a friend. I looked forward to Tuesdays every week.

Sooo, with that said I decided once again to sign up for something that I am passionate about and will look forward to doing every week (& this time it’s not because of anything depressing, lol).

That is your Monday motivation. If you have found yourself becoming a work zombie or you have found yourself unsatisfied, look within. Find your passions and try something new or old that you make new again. Step out of your box or comfort zone.

I can’t wait for you to see what I got myself into!

Always,

Tara

“That September in the rain”

Hey everyone!

Can you believe that September pretty much came and went already? I really can’t, but here we are.

My title is inspired by the song “September In The Rain” by Dinah Washington. Love that song! ( FYI: My brain was like, it’s September & its raining today = PERFECT!)

Any who, I wanted to talk today about the pressures we put on ourselves. Recently, I noticed myself feeling a certain way about where I am in my career (do I even have one?!) where I am financially, and really just with life in general. I had to pull myself out of the spiraling tornado REAL quick!

If you’ve ever been in the tornado, you know exactly what I’m talking about. It will suck you in so fast if you let it, DON’T! My advice to you as to myself is this; You’re doing fine. Yes, there is always room to improve, however, you are not any less or any different from anyone else. I have found in this life everyone pretty much is striving for the same things, we just need to remember to encourage and support one another.

I’ll make this short and sweet. If you see a post on Facebook, Instagram or whatever outlet you use, like it, share it, or comment on it. Tell them in person! Let people know that they have your support. It could mean more to them than you know. Small things go a long way!

& if no one has told you recently, that’s ok. You can be like me; put those headphones in, turn up the volume, dance & sing to you favorite jams & remember you are a badass!

Wanna Playlist to hype yourself?! I got you, start with these.

“Let Me Blow Ya Mind”  – Eve

“I’m Really Hot” – Missy Elliott

“Now I’m That Bitch” – Livvi Franc

“You Should See Me In A Crown” – Billie Eilish

Back To The Start

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope everyone is just as ready for the weekend as I am! (We can get through this Thursday!)

Today, I wanted to take a moment and talk about relationships. Since I have been reflecting on my own lately (Our 5-year anniversary is today!) I figured there may be some people out there that could benefit from a chat as well. So let’s jump in….

I really don’t know where to start and believe me I am no expert, but recently as I was strolling down memory lane looking at old photos (mostly going…where is that shirt? & why am I not that skinny anymore?) & it occurred to me that even on our worst days, weeks, or years, my feelings haven’t changed. My mindset, goals, and visions are the same.

Now, some of you may be thinking, good for you, but let me explain. Most couples will tell you, when you are in a relationship there can be a lot of outside influences and opinions that come flying at you. It doesn’t matter if you’ve asked for them or not. Especially in todays world with social media, it can be hard to focus on just the two of you. You see your girlfriends on Facebook posting on how their boyfriend/spouse bought them flowers, dinner or a new car (I’ve saw it) and you glare over at your partner from the couch like “Where’s my car?!”

The biggest one for me recently is MARRIAGE. That’s right my friends, everyone around me is getting married and I would be lying if I said I didn’t want the same. I mean, I’ve put in five years already! But then, I’ll sometimes ask myself… is that what you really want? And my brain can’t deal.

img_0051Now, if I let every blog, magazine article, or family member influence me 100% (& I won’t lie sometimes you can’t help it) I would be VERY single.

I guess my point in all of this is, both of you are going to grow, you’ll grow together and individually. People are going to keep posting about their lives on social media, and you are still going to take those surveys on Facebook to see if your compatible with your boyfriend/girlfriend’s zodiac sign. However, there are only two people in the whole wide world that know the story of you two (plus the cliff notes). Will you stop asking for advice, no. And I wouldn’t recommend it, but stop comparing.

img_0052

Even if you’re single (& still reading… hey you!) the same thing goes. Don’t compare where you are to others. You never know who may be looking at you from the outside wanting what you have. Everyone needs to take time to focus on themselves/ each other. Don’t let those small intimate details get lost in the shuffle. You may need to unplug from social media, drink a glass of wine, or if you’re like me,  pop in your head phones and scroll through old photos to remember those initial feelings that made you fall in love in the first place. Let it remind you that your relationship is yours alone and not everyone moves at the same speed.

Basic Babe

Hey Y’all! You know what is right around the corner?! FALL! I would be lying if I said I was not excited. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer BBQ’s, Fireworks, and longer days , but there is just something about fall here in Michigan that I have always adored.

My perfect fall day would consist of a cool breeze, leaves on the ground and a light rain (of course with coffee in hand). This perfect day would end with pizza and a scary movie. Ahh, I can see it now. Any who, as I was day dreaming about the season I remembered what may be my ultimate favorite part of it all….. the fashion! That’s right, the basic, yet perfect fashion that makes everyone look great. So in honor of this I came up with my five fall accessories that everyone should have and that I can’t live without. Let’s get started!

The Jacket.

I live for jackets! I always have and probably always will. Brown or black little leather jackets are essentials for cute fall fashion. Not only will they keep you sort of warm, I tend to find jackets are good at slimming you down. Of course, any jacket you buy MUST have pockets! I mean, no explanation needed.

The Scarf.

Now, scarfs are cute and all but if we’re being honest, we’re only wearing it because the jacket we have on isn’t thick enough & we are secretly freezing. Ha! Am I right? (If you live in Michigan you know what I’m talking about) But on a serious note, scarfs enhance our very basic look.

The Boots.

Ahh yes, the boots. Now if you’re like me and shorter than short, boots are your best friend. Get the bootie style with a little wedge and you are golden! Again, we need to be honest…. the real reason we need boots is because of the leggings we are wearing (insert honorable mention: Leggings).

img_0075

The Earrings.

Now, some of you may be going, earrings? That’s odd. Is it though? Most of the time I know I wear little makeup, sometimes even none. On top of that, I wear my hair in the craziest bun directly on top of my head. Earrings help keep direct eye contact off your face. They just make you look better.

The Flannel.

Last but certainly not least, the flannel shirt. If you want to scream basic thirty-something year old fall fashionista, go get yourself one girl! I won’t lie to you, I own more than I would like to admit. ( of course I have a favorite, which my boyfriend calls my “go to shirt”. However, do you know how cute and festive I look in it?! Looking like a fall snack honey!

Always
